Here is a compilation of simple yet effective tips that will make you an interpreter-friendly speaker.

The idea is to make presenters aware of the subtleties involved in delivering a talk in a multilingual context. The list was put together with the help of Dr. Debora Diniz, a  renowned Anthropologist and world class presenter, who attended one of my conference interpretation workshops.

Over the years, speakers have reacted very positively to these tips, which they tend to follow closely. Now, these Tips for an Interpretation-Friendly Presentation have been published as a feature article in the ATA Chronicle (the monthly journal of the American Translators Association). You can read the article on-line or download the pdf for future reference.

A more concise cheat sheet for speakers was later posted under the title of Public Speaking 3.

These tips for speakers were later reprinted in e-NITA, the newsletter of the Nevada Interpreters and Translators Association (NITA). A version in German also appeared in the VKD-KURIER, the journal of the German Association of Conference Interpreters (courtesy of my colleague Edith Kelly).

Your feedback is appreciated. Do you make it a habit of approaching speakers prior to meetings? If so, how exactly do you do that?

Feel free to circulate the pdf version of these interpreter-friendly tips
